Hello Students! 

In the pursuit of continuous quality improvement, Blue Care Network (BCN) and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) have announced that Gallagher Student Health (also known as JCB) will be replacing Blue Water Benefits as our student health plan administrator for the 2024 – 2025 academic year.

Tomorrow Wednesday, June 12th, the insurance enrollment/waiver portal will officially open for Fall enrollment term (July 1st, 2024 – October 31st, 2024). Please note that the enrollment/waiver portal for Fall term will remain open until Wednesday, July 24th. Students will receive an email tomorrow from Gallagher Student Health containing instructions on how to enroll in or waive enrollment in the student health plans. Please check your Spam/Junk folder if you cannot find the email in your inbox. Students can also access additional information regarding the student health plans (i.e., benefit packets, enrollment periods, pricing, etc.) and waiver requirements on our Gallagher Student Health website come Wednesday. 

Additionally, I am excited to announce that WSUSOM is now offering a new plan option called the "Blue Care Network Point of Service (POS)" which will serve as a replacement for the HMO plan. While selection of a PCP is still required for this plan as was the case with our former HMO plan, PCP referrals are no longer required to see specialists. Furthermore, unlike our previous HMO plan which did not provide any out-of-network coverage, our POS plan does offer some out-of-network coverage with a premium rate 16% lower than the HMO.

Lastly, please be sure to submit your annual $48.00 payment for disability insurance via Cashnet by Wednesday, July 24th as well. Enrollment in the medical school's disability insurance policy is required annually for all medical students and cannot be waived.
