Welcome to Wayne State University School of Medicine! As part of our onboarding process, we'd like to discuss two items with you: Updating your Personal Information and Deferment of Student Loans.

Personal Information Updates

We want you to review your contact information to update your local address, and also to add an emergency contact.

Please log in to Academica > Student Resources > Student Records > View Personal Information and follow these instructions:

If you need to change it, click the pencil below the mailing address and update all of the fields.

Emergency Contact

Click on Add New under Emergency Contact, then enter your contact's name.

For phone number, in the first box, please enter your emergency contact's area code.

In the second box, please enter the remaining seven digits of your emergency contact's phone number.

Please leave the third (extension) box blank. 

The example below is how (313) 555-1212 would be entered.

Deferment of Student Loans

Enrollment verification plays an extremely important role when it comes to deferring payments for student loans. In terms of our students' verifications, please note that the university will transmit enrollment information to the National Student Clearinghouse in mid-July 2024.  In turn, they forward enrollment information either directly to lenders or to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS). The NSC and NSLDS talk to each other twice a month. It is completely automated and eliminates the need for students to provide deferment forms. Please allow your lenders until early August to receive your enrollment update.
