Greetings Class of 2025,  

Our compliance with our contracts with our clinical partners is vital to maintaining the wide range of opportunities our students have for M4 rotations.  Students profit from the great number of specialty and subspecialty options that we have right here in Detroit. All of our affiliates also offer these to students from many other medical schools and through VSLO.  So, to maintain our priority scheduling year to year, we need to follow the new rules below:  

Effective with October 2024 to April 2025: 

VSLO  

• You must be registered for an Away Placeholder if you have an active VSLO (Visiting Student Learning Opportunities) application for the month. 

• If you are accepted to an Away rotation through VSLO, but you are registered for a clinical Home rotation in that month, your request to alter your schedule to accommodate your VSLO rotation will be denied. 

• Students can submit an MD4 Schedule Adjustment Request form  add the MD4 8391 AWAY Placeholder by Monday, August 5, 2024, at 12:00 pm.  

• After August 5, 2024, at noon, if students do not have an MD4 8391 Away placeholder for a VLSO AWAY rotation, they must withdraw their VSLO application.  

Independent, Research and Non-VSLO Rotations 

• You must have an open month if you would like to do an Independent, Research or Non-VSLO rotation.  

• You must complete the Independent, Reseach, and Non-VSLO rotation application 

• Students can submit a MD4 Schedule Adjustment Request form to have a free month and start on the application by Monday, August 5, 2024, at 12:00 pm.  

• If students have a clinical Home rotation in that month and want to switch into an Independent, Research, or Non-VSLO rotation, your request will be denied after August 5, 2024, at noon.  

Our office will continue to work with students whose plans for away rotations do not materialize to ensure on-time graduation. We will start working with students at the 50-day mark.
