The new artificial intelligence (AI) workshop series will dig deep into topics important for faculty related to generative AI. Join colleagues to discuss the ways that the world and our classrooms are changing since this technology has become broadly available. All sessions are offered in a hybrid format, please select the registration for the correct modality to help us plan.

AI: Overview for Faculty

Prepare yourself to stay ahead of the curve as artificial intelligence (AI) continues to transform teaching and learning. Join us for an engaging discussion on the current landscape of AI in higher education and specifically at Wayne State. You will gain a clear understanding of how you can thoughtfully integrate AI into your courses and avoid potential pitfalls to preparing students for an AI integrated world.

AI: A Personal Assistant for Faculty

• 1 - 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 (hybrid: Zoom and in person)
• 10 - 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7 (hybrid: Zoom and in person)

As busy faculty, we know you are constantly seeking efficient ways to manage your workloads. In this session, you'll find out how AI tools can streamline administrative tasks and free up time for higher-impact activities like scholarly research, curriculum development, or mentoring students. Discover practical tips and tricks for using AI-driven technologies to speed up grading, generate reports, draft communications, and streamline your academic responsibilities. We are excited to have Richard Pineau, associate professor of teaching in mathematics and chair of the academic senate ad hoc subcommittee on AI, facilitate this workshop.

As artificial intelligence continues to transform teaching and learning, savvy instructors know that crafting effective prompts is key to getting the most out of these powerful tools. In this interactive workshop, we'll explore the art of writing prompts that bring out the best in students and yield accurate, relevant, and engaging results. Learn how to harness the full potential of AI tools, while maintaining the integrity and quality that matters most.

Join us for a dynamic workshop where expert faculty will share innovative strategies for integrating AI-driven tools into evidence-based teaching practices. Discover how to spark critical thinking, foster problem-solving, and cultivate collaborative learning with the power of artificial intelligence. We are honored to have Silvia Giorgini, professor of teaching in Italian, Christine Knapp, associate professor of teaching in French, and Claas Kuhnen, associate professor of teaching in design, demonstrate how they have brought AI into their courses.
