Division of Academic Affairs - Wayne State University

Dear Warriors,

The Winter-Spring/Summer 2025 application for Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program funding is now open, and we invite you to apply for this highly competitive award.

Undergraduates from all majors - hard sciences, social sciences, performing arts and humanities - can participate in undergraduate research under the guidance of a full-time faculty mentor. Students whose projects are selected receive up to $2,300 to support their research and academic development.

Research isn’t limited to STEM majors and test tubes, although science does play a large role. Projects that investigate historic events and their impact on the current landscape is research. Creative projects in dance and music are encouraged, and a recent funded project studied the intersection of labor, masculinity and Blackness in the origins of blues and jazz. Research is defined by your curiosity and creativity.

If you don’t already have a faculty mentor, we can help! Check out UROPConnect, our searchable database of faculty members and their research interests, as well as a listing of openings for undergraduates on research projects.

You can learn more about undergrad research at urop.wayne.edu/award. You must submit your proposal and application, along with a letter of recommendation from your mentor, by Dec. 1, 2024.

If you have questions, please email urop@wayne.edu.

We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to explore the world of research and prepare for an advanced degree or a future career in the global workplace.

Cordially,

Ahmad M. Ezzeddine, PhD
