From the Provost - Wayne State University

Dear colleagues,

After 30 years of distinguished service to our Wayne State community, Dr. Ahmad Ezzeddine has shared with me that he will be leaving the university to pursue a wonderful new opportunity, joining the University of Washington leading international and global engagement as Vice Provost for Global Affairs. The University of Washington ranks amongst the leading universities in the world for its global engagement across research, instruction, and service.

We are grateful for Dr. Ezzeddine's invaluable contributions throughout our campus. A proud Warrior himself, he arrived as an international transfer student and since then has served in a variety of roles that have demonstrated a deep commitment to our mission. His unique experiences throughout his time at Wayne State allowed him to lead local and global initiatives which have positively impacted our student experience. In his current role as Senior Vice Provost for Partnerships, Workforce, and International Initiatives, Dr. Ezzeddine focused on the College to Career initiative, university partnerships, international programs, leading the extension centers, and community and service learning. He has mentored many staff members, collaborated with faculty, and developed opportunities for our students.

His impact is far reaching with a legacy here in Detroit and across the globe. Through Dr. Ezzeddine’s collaborative work, Wayne State has become a recognized entity in the international academic community. His global engagement led to WSU hosting the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders program, our selection as a sole provider of the Fullbright Gateway Program, the launch of the Global Learning for All Initiative, and the establishment of WSU’s Office of Fellowships. More locally, Dr. Ezzeddine helped Wayne State become a leading community college transfer destination throughout the state of Michigan. He worked to develop the Detroit Revitalization Fellows Program and Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses, both now part of TechTown.

Dr. Ezzeddine developed new initiatives while enhancing, rebuilding, and reimagining essential aspects of our university. He leaves a strong legacy through his work and family, all of whom are part of our Warrior community.

We will announce a January 2025 date for a celebration to honor and thank Dr. Ezzeddine. In the coming days, we will share a plan to conduct a search for his replacement. In the meantime, please join me in congratulating our colleague, Ahmad, and wishing him all the best as he takes on this new national leadership role.

With gratitude,
