Division of Research - Wayne State University

Dear Colleagues,

I'm writing to inform you that the Division of Research & Innovation is closely tracking the recent restrictions and communications pauses implemented at many grant funding agencies by the new presidential administration. We're evaluating impacts on regulatory guidance, grant announcements, notices of award, as well as the cancellation of active federal meetings and grant review panels.

I realize these changes have created understandable questions and concerns. Many on our campus community are directly affected - participants on current grant review panels and those with grant applications currently under review to name a few.

While some of these changes are common during a transition of administrations, we are actively engaging partners like Lewis-Burke Associates and the APLU to follow these rapid developments so that we can respond strategically and keep the campus community informed. We anticipate having greater clarity on or soon after February 1 when it's expected that the communication freezes will be lifted.

In the meantime, our Sponsored Program Administration office will work to support and advise our research community, but with limited ability under these circumstances.

I will continue to update you as we receive meaningful updates and additional credible information.

Sincerely,

Ezemenari M. Obasi, Ph.D.
Vice President for Research & Innovation
