GME welcomes incoming 2021 class of residents GME held its New Resident Orientation on June 29, welcoming an incoming cohort of physicians who would officially begin their residencies on July 1. As in 2020, the Orientation was held as a Zoom meeting and began with my introduction of WSUSOM Dean Mark Schweitzer, who welcomed the attendees. Next, Danny Taheri, the 2021-22 President of the Resident Council, provided a brief overview of Council activities and goals for the upcoming year. The remainder of the Orientation comprised a short introduction by the GME staff to the “GME World,” with summaries of staff roles and responsibilities. We also addressed key topics in graduate medical education: professionalism, resident wellness, health disparities, medical error reporting, and communication skills. In addition, GME staff provided information about the upcoming OSCE exercises (simulated patient encounters), required of all interns and PGY-1 residents, with cases devoted to health disparities, cultural competency, and telehealth delivery. | | GME News and Announcements | Fall 2021 Academic Boot Camp (DART/DEFT): Tuesday, Oct. 19 The first Academic Boot Camp of 2021 will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 19.
