ALA information sessions

Applications to next year's Academic Leadership Academy (ALA) cohort are open through Apr. 19, 2024. By participating in the one-year program, participants, known as ALA Fellows, build on their emerging leadership skills by applying what they learn to their current roles or a leadership project. 

If you'd like to learn more, informal virtual Q&A sessions are scheduled for the following dates/times (click on the date to download an .ics file, and double-click the downloaded file to add it to your calendar):

Did you know you can access and integrate library-licensed articles, ebooks, and streaming media without leaving Canvas? Have you tried the copyright-compliant JSTOR integration with Hypothesis annotation software? There's still time to sign up and join the Office of Faculty Affairs and Development as we welcome the WSU Libraries for this informative virtual session, 3-3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7. The WSU Libraries have a broad range of resources and services to support your teaching. In this webinar, you'll learn about the many different services your library and subject librarian can provide, including a variety of instructional resources to guide students in library research to meet your assignment goals.

2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23 | Guest Webinar - AI in Academia: Teaching Challenges and Opportunities 
OpenAI launched ChatGPT in November 2022, leading to an arms race between AI users and those who discourage its use, sparked by its advanced text-generating capacities and evasion of plagiarism detection. This implies a need to adjust teaching practices and develop new strategies that both navigate and beneficially utilize these technologies, teaching students to employ them effectively and responsibly. In this webinar, presenters will discuss why we owe it to our students to adjust our teaching practices in light of AI technology, and present some practical suggestions for how to do so.

2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30 | Guest Webinar (Live on Zoom) - AI in Academia: Discussing Opportunities and Challenges
Join the NCFDD for a live panel discussion! In this session, panelists will discuss some of the opportunities and challenges associated with using AI in higher education. There are many issues to explore, from teaching, writing, and research to critical AI literacy and ethical considerations. After panelists present their opening remarks, audience members will be invited to share their questions, comments, and ideas.
